About Us

Our Purpose

The Bennett Artificial Intelligence Society (BI∀S) promotes educational, professional, and social interaction among every undergraduate student interested in machine learning. We hold weekly discussions on the latest papers in the field, organize workshops, host speakers, and work on projects around machine intelligence at Bennett.

We receive support from the Department of Computer Science Engineering.

What We Do

Reading Group

Our weekly discussions on recent machine learning papers, or “reading groups”, are at the core of our community. We strongly believe that undergraduates have the potential to do meaningful contributions in the field of ML and because of that, we organize these reading groups for undergraduates, presented by undergraduates. We are confident that this is one of the best ways for undergrads to have a taste of the current literature, all the while becoming a part of a vibrant community along the way.

Workshops

We host workshops, covering various topics in Machine Learning. Don’t worry if you haven’t had any exposure to Machine Learning before.
Lectures -- Get a high-level understanding of the math behind neural networks, how to train a language model, and more!
Labs -- Each lecture will have an associated lab component, where you can apply what you’ve learned. Meet and work with some of your fellow students.

Labs

We work closely with mentors on both research-based and applied machine learning projects. We aim for a publication at ML conferences. Every semester, we host a demo day and invite the community to see what we’ve been building!

Faculty events

We hold several events to improve student-faculty relations, including student-faculty luncheons, mentorship program, presentations by faculty on their research, and information sessions on graduate programs.
